Challah

The holiday of Rosh Hashanah began last night at sundown. This holiday is the Jewish New Year. One of the rituals I like to follow every year is to bake the bread that is traditional for this holiday. That bread is challah, a rich loaf that contains lots of eggs. Other foods that are often eaten during this holiday are usually a bit sweet, even the main course. For dessert, honey cake is often served.

Here is the challah I baked yesterday. During the evening meal, we will dip a piece of the bread in some honey for a "sweet new year."

Happy New Year!
