Fun and Unique Etsy Purchase

It's no secret that I like to cook and bake.  It's also no secret that I have a thing for antique kitchen ware.  Imagine how excited I was to see this item on etsy.  If I remember correctly, it was in the etsy finds email a while back.  It is from New Dominion Blues.  I'm not sure I'll actually bake in it, but if I do, it will make really cute corn muffins!

Destashing Some Vintage Goods

Rick and I used to go "outside" (that's what Alaskans call going to the lower 48) for 2 months every winter to visit family and goof off. Then I got tired of being away from my home and my stuff for such long periods of time. It was a real challenge getting used to staying in the frozen north country for the entire winter, but now I've become a real homebody and have no desire to leave for anything longer than 2 weeks!

The one thing I really miss is antiquing. There is such a limited number of antique stores in Anchorage and the inventory doesn't change often enough to warrant visiting more than twice a year.

While driving the California coast, I found this little treasure at an antique store in Monterey. At the time, I thought I would use the ration coupons in a piece of mixed media art. I discovered that I have a really hard time using things that were once so personal to someone and their family. It feels like I'm exposing them, somehow. Hopefully, someone else will be able to use these historic papers in a meaningful way.

They are listed in my other etsy shop. Click on the photo to go directly to the listing to see all the coupons in the packet.

More Vintage Goodies

Here's a set of vintage items that I recently listed in my other etsy shop. Not sure why I stared collecting these boxes of old chalk, but I now think I've owned them long enough. Time for them to go to a new home.

If you have not yet visited my other etsy shop, please have a look. It has quite a wide variety of stuff, including handmade, spiral bound journals, beads, charms, findings and some knitted items. Here's the link: A Peaceful Life

Vintage Leather Box

I decided it's time to part with some additional vintage items in my stash. While I love this box, I realized that I would never be able to "alter" it in any way. It's just too cool the way it is. I listed it yesterday afternoon after struggling with the photography.

If you click on the photo, you will go directly to the listing, where there are several other photos from different angles.

Stay tuned for some more vintage goodies in my second etsy shop, A Peaceful Life.

I'm Part Packrat ... bet you didn't know that

Yes, I'm afraid it's true. But I've decided to start parting with some of the glorious finds I've collected over the years. I adore vintage stuff, but most of it has been packed away, rarely seen or enjoyed. NO, I will NOT part with any of the vintage jewelry, so don't even ask about that!

I've recently listed 2 items in my other etsy shop, A Peaceful Life, that fall into the vintage category. I'm hoping that someone else can appreciated them and show them more love than I've been able to.This first item is a 1943 calendar made by the Everready Calendar Company. They still make desk calendars today! This one is softened with age and has some notes regarding the weather distributed throughout. The next item is a box of very old crayons. I couldn't find out very much about the company that manufactured them, but this box is amazingly well preserved. The crayons inside show a bit more wear.
